Our History

Our History

The Norman L. Jeffer Community Chapels Inc. was established in 1943 by Norman L. Jeffer at the corner of 47th street and Fort Hamilton Parkway in Brooklyn. (This location is now a part of Maimonides Hospital complex.) The Funeral Home was one of the pioneers in Jewish Funeral Services in the New York City area and the United States.

The Norman L. Jeffer Community Chapel has arranged for thousands of funerals, burials, and transfer services since its inception 75 years ago.

Norman Jeffer was a member of many Jewish Burial Societies by invitation because of his dedication to dignified Jewish burial customs and services.

Norman L. Jeffer retired in 1980 and transferred the day-to-day operations of the firm to his son, David Jeffer. David has been in the business and became licensed by the State of New York as a Funeral Director since 1964.

David Jeffer continues today to be active with many Burial Societies which include Masons, Odd Fellows, Knights of Pythias, United Sons of Israel Benevolent and is the Honorary Funeral Director for some of those organizations and many Young Israel synagogues.

The commitment of his father to provide affordable caring comfort to the Jewish families continues to this day.
